Home Children & Youth MYF (Youth Group)
MYF (Youth Group)

Welcome  to the UMYF (United Methodist Youth Fellowship) section of Oak Chapel! My name is Melissa and I am a seminary student at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC, and the new youth leader.

UMYF is a place for middle and high school students to come and learn, grow, and play together. I’m here to help the youth and young adults learn about the Triune God (that's God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit!), about their faith and worship, and to help guide them as they figure out who they are as God’s people. I’m also here to learn from them and their experiences! They teach me something new every week about what it means to work with youth in the church and what it means to be a pastor.

Over the next few years I’ll be working with the youth so we all step out of our comfort zones and grow together as we ask questions about our faith, dive into devotional time, do service projects, go on retreats and to youth events, have lock-ins, and have a lot of fun doing it all.

We meet as a group every Sunday morning for Sunday school (10:10am) and during the school year we meet every Sunday night for Youth Group (6:30pm-8:30pm) - come and join the fun!

MYF Calendar

Youth Group Nights take place every Sunday night (unless otherwise noted) from 6:30pm-8:30pm in the youth room. These nights will be very casual and youth are encouraged to invite friends. Please make sure to eat before coming!

Be sure to like the Oak Chapel UMYF Facebook page, the Oak Chapel Facebook page, and check out the bulletin boards and your email for weekly updates, pictures, and information!

Youth Retreat and Fundraiser
This year the youth will be going to Winchester, VA April 13-15 for an event called University SpL@Sh. This event includes a band, speakers, worship, small group activities, and a mission project while getting to spend the day on a college campus! In order to cover costs we will be having a dinner and talent show fundraiser. This event will take place Saturday March 10. Be on the look out for more details!

Confirmation Classes Begin Soon!
Confirmation refers to the decision a person makes to respond to God's grace with intentional commitment, publicly reaffirming their baptismal vows before the congregation. In other words, the confirmand is taking responsibility for living as a member of the body of Christ and for fulfilling God's purposes! The first Sunday will be March 11 and we will meet before youth group and run through Confirmation Sunday, May 13. Anyone who is 7th grade or older is welcome to join – please let Melissa know if you are interested!
