Our Local History
Oak Chapel UMC has a rich history and helped shape the development of Montgomery County and the Layhill - Silver Spring Community since 1839. Some of our various members helped shape the development of Montgomery County Maryland into what it is today. For those who are local historians, persons studying their family history records, (Genealogy,) or for those who want to know more about our church and how we developed into what we are today, below are links to more information:

Our Cemetery (Genealogy) The Oak Chapel Cemetary

The oldest grave marker gives the year of 1820. There are no known records of all of the grave sites. However we are in the process of researching and refurbishing our cemetery and you can read more about it here...
